About Alkebulan: A Journal of West and East African Studies

Alkebulan: A Journal of West and East African Studies is a distinguished international journal published biannually (January-June and July-December). It is proudly affiliated with the Department of Philosophy at the University of Calabar, Nigeria, and is dedicated to fostering academic research in the humanities and social sciences, focusing on issues pertinent to the West and East African regions.

Our journal serves as a platform for the dissemination of original research by social scientists across various disciplines, including anthropology, philosophy, sociology, history, political science, and related fields, addressing the diverse societies and cultures of West and East Africa. We explore a wide range of topics, examining both historical perspectives and future possibilities, with a particular emphasis on comparative analysis between countries and continents.

With a geographical scope encompassing Both Western and East Africa countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo, as well as East Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Malawi, Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles, Reunion, Madagascar, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, we welcome contributions that shed light on the complex dynamics and interconnections within and beyond these regions.

Alkebulan encourages cross-disciplinary dialogue, offering a platform for scholars to engage in comparative viewpoints and rigorous research that employs the most relevant theoretical and methodological approaches. We are committed to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring the integrity of scholarly work through a thorough peer-review process.

Articles submitted to Alkebulan must adhere to specific guidelines, including a maximum limit of 60,000 characters, preparation in accordance with the American Psychological Association's 6th edition (APA 6th Edition), and adherence to ethical standards, including originality and avoidance of plagiarism. Authors are also required to sign a copyright form and pay publication fees.

While our journal has an international outlook, we particularly value contributions that promote African concepts, theories, and perspectives, enriching the global discourse with insights less known in mainstream literature. We strive to provide a platform for scholars from diverse backgrounds, fostering direct discussion and engagement with ideas from the margins of the world socio-economic system.
